TARAMM manufactures precision titanium and high melting points alloys cast parts meeting following criteria :

Size and Weight

  • The castings must be accommodated in an annulus defined by two cylinders of 60 and 650mm diameters and 450mm in height.
  • Minimum part thickness : from 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm depending on the magnitude of the area.
  • Part weight must not exceed 7 kilograms (15,4 pounds).
Mechanical properties

The ultimate strength of cast titanium alloys is very high. It is equal to the cast steel alloys ultimate strength, but the titanium density is only 4.5 as compared 7.8 for steel alloys.

A heat resistance up to 400°C/500°C and an exceptional corrosion resistance and their bio compatibility (no rejection by human body) justifies the use of cast titanium alloys in many fields.

Shapes

There is practically no limitation concerning the complexity of shapes that can be obtained. However TARAMM company will propose, when necessary, shape modifications in order to make the manufacturing easier or to reduce the cost.

Machined castings

Thanks to a subcontractor network (machining subcontractors approved by TARAMM), we are able to supply machined castings (with bearing fittings if required) ready for fitting on aircraft or engine.

.Product advantages
There are many advantages in using titanium investment castings :

Economical : Melting bars or sheets remnants with traceability and a cost six times lower than the virginal metal ingot.

The investment casting process enables shapes which are very close to the final shape. Machining is restricted to contact or functional areas for which very tight tolerances are required.

Waste of material resulting from machining parts is consequently significantly reduced.

The investment casting process enables to obtain very complex shapes at a low price in comparison with other shaping processes such as : machining from a massive block, machining from a forged part, assembly by welding, etc...

This is even truer for titanium which is an expensive metal and difficult to machine.

Technical : Possibility of obtaining castings with very thin walls due to the " superheating " of the melted metal.

Possibility of increasing parts rigidity while reducing their weight providing that the design of the casting is optimized for investment casting process. TARAMM is helping its customers to optimize their design.

Elaboration of any kind of alloy

Quality : No pollution of the liquid metal by the crucible. The metal is in " semi levitation " and has a very small contact area with the crucible.

The liquid metal resulting from electromagnetic induction stirring is perfectly homogeneous.

No Alpha case (metal superficial pollution by the ceramic mold) due to the pouring into a cold mold allowing a quick solidification.
